Governor Responds to Lawyer's Bridge Collapse Report

Governor Pawlenty said he has directed MnDOT Commissioner Tom Sorel to take a look at the report issued Wednesday on the collapse of the I-35 Bridge. The report completed by law firm Gray Moody and Plant attempted to point fingers at MnDOT for not doing more to prevent the bridge collapse. Pawlenty added that the National Transportation Safety Board expects to complete its investigation later this year and while the Gray Moody Plant report is interesting, there's no way to know if its relevant until the NTSB report is issued. The Governor said an initial statement suggested the bridge collapsed because of too-thin gusset plates. The NTSB also said inspecting the bridge would have not identified the design error of the plates.
