Ice Fishing Begins Around Brainerd

The recent cold snap has fishermen on the ice, according to Nikki Shoutz, DNR Conservation Officer. She tells KLKS News, the ice is never considered safe, and she has heard of a few near tragedies already. Shoutz says one thing new for ice fishermen; if fish houses are removed from the lakes and rivers over night, they do not need to be licensed.
A couple other outdoor notes: Hunters wishing to go deer hunting during the muzzleloader season, will have to wait 48 hours if they buy their license during the season, which runs through December 14th.
And, trappers can register bobcat, fisher, pine martin and otter at Backus Forestry Office and Brainerd DNR Office Tuesday, December 9th from noon to 7 p.m.
