Howes Calls the Governor's Proposed Budget Cuts "A Start"

State Representative Larry Howes of Walker describes the Governor's budget proposal as a start, and not as bad as he expected. Wadena Mayor Wayne Walden, President of the Coalition of Greater Minnesota Cities, is predicting thousands of layoffs, huge cuts in core services and big property tax increases. Howes tells KLKS News, that's not what he's hearing. While Local Government Aid will be cut by 25%, Howes says city officials have told him they thought it was going to be a lot worse. Howes says a third of the cuts to cities and counties will happen this year, two thirds in 2010.
