Dru's Law Takes Effect

(AP) A law inspired by the death of Dru Sjodin has being applied in the case of a Robinsdale man. 28-year-old Gari Lamont Stewart faces life in prison with out parole for the 2007 attack on a woman and her boy friend in St. Paul. He was convicted of rape, arson, attempted murder and kidnapping.
A 2005 law was passed after the abduction and murder of University of North Dakota Student Dru Sjodin of Pequot Lakes. Both Minnesota and North Dakota set harsher penalties following the 2003 case.
