Food Share Month

This is Food Share Month in Minnesota.
Don Messick of the Lakes Area Food Shelf in Pequot Lakes tells KLKS News, they served a record number of families last year. Nearly 3,600 families received assistance, up 11 percent from the year before. Most of those families had children under 10. However, his fastest growing segment is seniors.
Messeck says they have been able to keep up with demand, but is asking for contributions. He says they will take food, but prefer money. He says he was able to buy 11,000 pounds worth of food for $3,000.
The Lakes Area Food Shelf is located in the Grace United Methodist parking lot south of Pequot Lakes. Checks may be mailed to: P.O. Box 724, Nisswa.
