Wild Fire Near Gilbert Lake

Just because there was snow on the ground in the Brainerd Lakes Area just a week ago, does not mean wild fires can't happen here. A serious brush fire struck a 40 acre wooded lot north of Brainerd near Gilbert Lake Wednesday afternoon. Quick action kept it from getting to several houses on Paul Street and Blakeman Road. The fire was first reported shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday, and was brought under control about two and a half hours later. The DNR used an air tanker to quell the fire.
