Heart Center Coming to Brainerd

Ground was broken today on a new heart and vascular center for Brainerd. Currently, patients in need of heart operations are sent to St. Cloud Hospital from St. Joseph's Medical Center. Thomas Prusack, President of Brainerd Lakes Health, which owns St. Joe's and seven area clinics, says there is a "Golden Hour" following the onset of symptoms. He says that hour can be spent transporting patients, or treating them locally.

Prusak tells KLKS News they need to raise $4 million to build the facility. So far, they have raised $3.3 million with donations from local health care professionals and one generous, anonymous donor. Prusak hopes the community will come forward to fund the balance.
