Deer Opener Saturday

Deer hunters are expected to harvest around 13 thousand deer around the Brainerd Lakes Area during the hunting season this year. The rifle season opens Saturday morning.

Area Wildlife Supervisor Gary Drotts tells KLKS News, they had to change zone 242, also known as the Greater Brainerd zone, from a status of intensive harvest to managed because of some incorrect reporting from last year. He said some hunters were claiming antlerless deer from 242, when they really came from zones 246, 247 or 249.

Drotts says the success of bow hunters has been down this year due in large measure to rainy, cool weather in October.
