Oberstar Not Committed to Afghanistan Surge

Minnesota Congressman Jim Oberstar is withholding his support for President Obama's proposal to increase the number the U.S. troop in Afghanistan. The senior member of the Minnesota congressional delegation said, "This was President Obama's most poignant and forceful speech to-date, making a strong intellectual case for expanding the U.S. presence in Afghanistan."

Oberstar also said he was impressed that the President laid out a timetable for withdrawal. But he didn't say how much it would cost. Because of that, Oberstar said he would reserve judgment until a specific funding request is made to Congress.
