Scammers Busy in the Area

Area Sheriffs are alerting the unsuspecting to be aware of scams floating around the area.   Morrison County Sheriff Michel Wetzel says one involves supposed relatives who are in custody in Canada and needing money.

The Sheriff’s Office has received several reports of county residents being contacted either on the phone or by email from someone claiming to be a child, grandchild, or other relative. During the contact, the person claims they have been arrested in Canada and need bail money or are in some other form of trouble in Canada and need money wired immediately. The scammers are known to have done their homework, and have a substantial amount of information making them seem believable.

The Todd County Sheriff 's office says they are getting complaints about a scam purporting to be from a federal enforcement agency.  The caller claims to have a warrant for their arrest, and person on the other end of the phone needs to send them money to take care of the warrant.

The Sheriff says legitimate law enforcement agencies will never ask to send money.
