Bird Numbers Good Despite the Cold

Some lakes area bird lovers are reporting less activity at the feeders recently.  DNR Non Game Specialist Pam Perry says the recent harsh weather has been tough on less hardy species.  But, northern varieties adapted to these conditions are OK.

Perry says they recently conducted a bird count in the Pillager area, and the numbers are still good.

Perry told KLKS News, the death of thousands of birds in Arkansas appears to be man made.  She says black birds died from trauma, possibly frightened by fireworks or a noise canon at night.  The affected birds are not good night fliers, and may have died from striking unseen objects in the dark.
