New Laws To Maintain Lakes

The Brainerd Lakes Area has more than its share of invasive species, including zebra mussels, spiny water fleas and Eurasian water millfoil.

Brainerd Aquatic Species Specialist Dan Swanson tells KLKS News, they have a new tool to prevent their spread called "The Drain Plug Law."  He says boaters are required to empty their boats of all water before entering other lakes.

Asian Carp have not entered area waters yet.  Swanson says if they come here, it will likely be through the river system.
