The Central Lakes College Medical Assistant program at the Staples campus has earned accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.

The CLC program is also accredited through the American Medical Technologists. The latest endorsement comes from the largest programmatic accreditor in the health sciences field.

National accreditation is considered the “gold standard” for medical assisting, said Dawn Michel, instructor-director of CLC’s 44-credit diploma program.

Motorists traveling on Highway 10 between Clear Lake and Big Lake may encounter lane closures and reduced speeds beginning Monday, Oct. 3, as crews begin preparations for next year’s corridor pavement replacement project.


Crews will begin installing temporary bypass lanes and turn lanes, and widening of major intersections for the rehabilitation project scheduled for this portion of the Highway 10 Corridor in 2012.

The $13.1 million improvement project is scheduled to be completed by mid-November, weather permitting.

(AP)  Minnesota Congressman Chip  Cravaack says he is no fan of the proposed Northern Lights high-speed rail link between Duluth and the Twin Cities. 

The freshman Republican says the $750 million project won't pay for itself and the money would be better spent on highway and bridge repair.  The Federal government would pick up 80% of the cost.

The project was championed by Cravaack's predecessor, former DFL Representative Jim Oberstar, who touted the economic benefit to northeastern Minnesota.  The train would cover the rails at 110 miles per hour and make the trip in two hours.

The federal government has awarded $5 million for engineering studies.

Three area lakes are among 15 that will no longer have restriction on the taking of northern pike.  The special northern pike regulation will end Tuesday, Nov. 1.

This change is the result of a new state law that limits the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources to no more than 100 northern pike special or experimental regulation lakes and only allows for length-based rules.

Included among the 15 lakes are Louise in Cass County, ,Ogechie in Mille Lacs County  and Little Sauk in Todd County.

The lakes will revert to the standard statewide northern pike regulation – a three-fish limit with no more than one greater than 30 inches in possession.
