Copper Thefts Up in Crow Wing County

Thefts of scrap, particularly copper, are on the rise in Crow Wing County, according to Sheriff Todd Dahl. Thieves have been targeting both businesses and private homes looking for anything that may be of value for recycling.

Recently, a rash of thefts has been happening at seasonal R.V. campgrounds around Crow Wing County. The thieves are cutting the power feed cords for the campers to recycle the copper found inside the electrical cords. They are also cutting the copper tubing off of propane cylinders.

Sheriff Dahl would like to remind citizens that if they see anything suspicious to call 911 and report the activity. Information that would be beneficial for the investigation would include a vehicle description and possible license plate, number of persons and any clothing/physical descriptions.
