November Wolf Season

Minnesota continues to prepare for its first wolf hunting season.

Conservation Officer Nikki Shoutz tells KLKS News, the season will be held the end of November.  She says the pelts should be in prime condition then.  A number of means can be used to take the great predator, including rifle, archery, muzzle loader and trapping.

The six thousand licenses will be issued by lottery.

Shoutz says once 400 wolves have been taken, the season will be closed.

Baiting and calls will be allowed with some restrictions.

Gazelka Says Teachers Lay-Offs Should be Performance Based

Minnesota State Senator Paul Gazelka is supporting a bill to change the last in first out policy that many school districts use when selecting teachers for lay-offs.

The Republican from Baxter says the LIFO policy does not take into consideration a teacher's performance in the classroom, only their seniority in hiring within their district, resulting in excellent teachers being laid off.

DFL-ers say the proposed measurement tools need to be fine tuned before they are ready for widespread application.

Crosby Man Will Run in 10B

Joe Radinovich of Crosby announced his candidacy for Minnesota House District 10B.

Radinovich, a DFL-er, said he is running because it is obvious St. Paul is broken. He goes on to say, the current Republican leadership is more worried about misguided agendas than creating a single job.

Radinovich says the unemployment rate in Crow Wing and Aitkin Counties is above the national and state averages since the recession began and charges the current legislature isn’t focused on fixing that. He plans to talk about jobs, education and care for seniors.

The lifelong resident of the Cuyuna Range says St. Paul needs real leadership, not more political gridlock and shutdowns.
